Dr. Arnaldo Espaillat is a renowned Dominican ophthalmologist. After completing his medical degree at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU), he spent the next 8 years specializing Ophthalmology, also completing a Fellowship in Retina and Vitreous diseases, a Postgraduate Master in Pathology of the Anterior Segment, a Postgraduate Diploma in Pathology of the Retina, Choroid and Vitreous, at the Barraquer Institute in Barcelona, Spain. Dr. Espaillat has been president of the Dominican Society of Ophthalmology and is currently a member of the international council of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and representative of the Dominican Republic.
Dr. Espaillat was elected Chairman of the Executive Board of ALACCSA-R (Latin American Association of Cataract, Cornea, Anterior Segment and Refractive Surgeons) for the biennium 2019-2021.
Dr. Espaillat is a renowned international speaker, having given more than 200 conferences at international and national conferences. He is the author of several articles published in specialized scientific journals, co-editor of 3 ophthalmology books, author and co-author of 11 chapters of ophthalmology books, and is the chief editor of the cataract section of the ALACCSA-R digital magazine.
Since 1997 Dr. Espaillat has been the Medical Director of the Espaillat Cabral Institute, the first ophthalmological clinic and the first medical center dedicated to a single medical specialty in the Dominican Republic. In 2019, the Institute became the first Dominican health center, and the first outside the United States, to receive the HFAP international quality accreditation.

Ha sido presidente de la Sociedad Dominicana de Oftalmología, y en la actualidad es miembro del consejo internacional de la Sociedad Internacional de Cirugía Refractiva y representante de República Dominicana ante dicha sociedad.
Recientemente, el Dr. Espaillat Matos fue elegido Presidente de la Mesa Ejecutiva de ALACCSA-R (Asociación Latinoamericana de Cirujanos de Catarata, Córnea, Segmento Anterior y Refractiva), para el bienio 2019-2021.
El Dr. Espaillat Matos es un reconocido conferencista de renombre internacional. Ha dictado más de 200 conferencias en congresos internacionales y nacionales. Es autor de varios artículos publicados en revistas científicas especializadas, es coeditor de 3 libros de oftalmología, autor y coautor de 11 capítulos de libros de oftalmología, y es el editor jefe de la sección de catarata de la revista digital de ALACCSA-R.
Desde 1997 es Director Médico del Instituto Espaillat Cabral, la primera clínica oftalmológica y el primer centro dedicado a una sola especialidad médica en República Dominicana. En 2019 el Instituto se convirtió en el primer centro de salud dominicano, y primero fuera de Estados Unidos, en recibir la acreditación internacional de calidad en salud HFAP.
