Responsible doctors prescribing contact lenses for the first time will give you a small lecture that the lenses are not always safe.
At this point, we would like to provide a briefing on the risks of wearing contact lenses. If you do not have time to read it, please look through the highlights of it below:
It is important to keep your lenses sterile; negligence may lead to infections and loss of vision!
Even the “breathable” lenses block the access of oxygen to the eyes' tissues, which may result in necrosis (cell death)!
Lenses may cause a corneal ulcer after even minor eye damage (like a scratch)!
Wearing lenses overnight cause a "corneal effect," decreased motility (speed of closing) of the eye, potential loss of eye socket protection, and injuries!
Prolonged wearing of lenses causes conjunctivitis!
Lenses solution often triggers allergies!
Most standard lenses are worn longer than recommended. The recommended period for wearing contact lenses depends on the individual, but few doctors take the time to estimate this recommended period for their patients. From our experience, we noticed that wearing lenses overnight leads to corneal abrasion. Many clinics refuse laser eye surgery to those patients who have very thin corneas. Complex cases are our specialty, but extremely thin corneas require a very complex treatment and a higher operation cost.
